Description

If you’re exploring indoor trees for your home but aren’t sure where to begin, trust us when we say that the Pachira Aquatica is the tree you want. It is virtually kill-proof, relatively tidy, and grows as large (or as small) as you want. They are also pretty much immune to the most common cause of black thumbs: over-watering (hey, we’ve all been there).

Also known as the money tree, Guiana chestnut, or the saba nut, Pachira Aquatica is native to the tropics and thrives near wetlands and swamps. It loves moist soil; hence, the kill-proof factor. It also does well in indirect light, so growing it indoors is no problem—just position it in a fairly sunny spot.

Dimensions of Potted Plant: L x B x H ~ 8" x 8" x 10"

How to Care For Pachira Aquatica

  • This tree loves moisture, but you still should never let it stand in water. Therefore, keeping it in a planter with good drainage is essential.
  • Position it in indirect light indoors, turning it every time you water it for even growth and leafing.
  • Be sure to water consistently, ideally 1 – 2 times per week depending on humidity. Water all the topsoil, just until the water starts leaking out the drain holes.
  • For optimal longevity, lightly fertilize the Pachira Aquatica 3 – 4 times a year with a water-soluble fertilizer. I use an easy one that you scatter on the topsoil that gradually dissolves with each watering.
